Wedding at the US National Arboretum Washington DC | Washington DC Wedding Photographer
The US National Arboretum is one of those Washington DC wedding venues that does not try to be anything other than what it is, and that restraint is exactly what makes it extraordinary.
Tucked into the northeast quadrant of the city at 3501 New York Avenue NE, this 446-acre living museum offers something no ballroom or hotel in DC can replicate: the Capitol Columns, twenty-two Corinthian columns originally part of the east portico of the United States Capitol, standing in an open meadow against an enormous sky. Ceremonies here are genuinely unlike anything else in the city.
Beyond the columns, the grounds shift from formal gardens to wooded paths to sweeping open fields, giving photographers an incredible range of backdrops across a single wedding day. Fall is particularly special here, when the gardens are in full bloom and the late afternoon light hits the open meadow in a way that is very hard to manufacture anywhere else.
From a photography standpoint, the scale, the variety, and the quality of golden hour light at the Arboretum make it one of my favorite venues in all of DC. If you are considering it for your own day, start the permitting conversation early and plan your timeline with the open grounds in mind. And if you want to talk through what photography coverage would look like for your celebration here, I would love to hear from you!
