The Art of Documentary Editorial Wedding Photography

Your wedding day is a chapter in your legacy, a story of love written in laughter, tears, and stolen glances. Capturing these moments isn’t just about clicking that button on my camera; it's about weaving together the candid moments and the poised elegance that define your love story.

Documentary editorial wedding photography is what I call my style of photographing. It thrives on authenticity and artistic influence. It's about freezing the fleeting moments that make your heart race and immortalizing them in frames that tell your tale. But it's more than just candid shots; it’s also about those photos that could be framed and hung for decades to come. The ones that make you go, “hello, Vogue?!”

It's an intricate dance of melding journalistic storytelling and the curated elegance of editorial posing. And boy, do I love to dance.

Why “Documentary Editorial”?

Unlike traditional wedding photography, which may feel staged or sometimes cookie cutter, my approach is to create an immersive experience for you and your guests. It’s about capturing the genuine emotions, the unscripted exchanges, and the unfiltered beauty of your day. It's the art of storytelling in real-time.

There’s the uninhibited laughter, the tender exchanges, and the unexpected surprises—the kind of moments that define the heart and soul of your celebration. This style encapsulates the raw, unfiltered emotions that make your wedding uniquely yours.

Then comes the posing. We have dedicated time built into your timeline to give you those Vogue-worthy photos. It doesn’t take away from your day - it only adds to it. In a typical timeline, this dedicated photo time is only about 30 to 45 minutes! In the grand scheme of things, it’s not much. But you get those stunning images for life.

It’s also my job to “see” a moment before it happens. I can often quickly navigate to the best lighting, change a setting, or adjust you to help that image be perfect straight out of the camera. I will never stop a moment from happening, or NOT capture a moment just because the lighting isn’t dreamy. But if I can move or I can move an element organically, great!

As your wedding photographer, my approach is to seamlessly merge candid storytelling with editorial posing. It's a delicate balance that ensures your photos are not just moments frozen in time but curated pieces of art.

Candid shots capture the spontaneity and authenticity of the day, while editorial posing adds a touch of elegance. The result? A whole new way of telling your story with style and grace.
